Designing for Clarity in a Multi-Asset Investment Platform

Designing an AI-powered platform that helps investors manage alternative assets including startups, crypto, real estate, and private equity — all in one unified portfolio.

Raziel is an AI-powered portfolio management platform designed to bring structure, clarity, and intelligence to alternative investments —spanning startups, real estate, crypto, and public equities.

Built end-to-end by King Tide, the platform consolidates fragmented financial data into a single, intelligent dashboard, helping investors track performance, analyze risk, and make informed decisions with confidence.

The Problem Space

Alternative investing is fundamentally broken from a UX perspective.
Investors typically manage:
  • Startup equity → spreadsheets, emails, cap tables

  • Real estate → contracts, rent sheets, brokers

  • Crypto → multiple wallets and exchanges

  • Public equities → separate brokerage platforms

The result: fragmented visibility, manual tracking, and low confidence

Raziel exists to solve this by:

  • Centralizing all assets

  • Automating data ingestion

  • Layering AI-driven insights on top

But when I joined mid-way, the product hadn’t fully delivered on that promise.

Stage 1. Situation & Task — Joining mid-product

The product already had:

  • A strong visual identity

  • Core dashboard and asset modules

  • Multi-asset coverage

However, there was a critical gap:

The platform aggregated data— but didn’t yet translate it into clear decisions

As a product designer joining mid-way, my task was to:

  • Turn a data aggregation platform into a decision-making tool

  • Improve clarity across complex asset types

  • Align AI capabilities with user mental models

  • Enhance trust, usability, and insight discoverability

Constraints

  • Core architecture already defined

  • Limited time for structural changes

  • No formal usability testing

So the approach wasn’t reinvention—it was strategic refinement.

Stage 2. Action — Figuring it out

Understanding the product deeply

Raziel is not one product—it’s a system of interconnected layers:

1. Unified Portfolio Layer

  • All assets (startups, real estate, crypto, equities) in one dashboard

  • Real-time performance tracking and allocation visibility

2. Data Aggregation Layer

  • 12,000+ integrations + AI importing for unstructured data

  • Document parsing (contracts, financials → structured insights)

3. Asset-Specific Modules

  • Startup investing (deal flow, tracking, capital calls)

  • Real estate (rent, value, performance tracking)

  • Crypto (wallet integrations, real-time price tracking)

Applying UX heuristics

Recognition over recall

  • Surfaced key metrics:

    • Portfolio value

    • Asset allocation

    • Risk exposure

  • Reduced dependency on digging through modules

Progressive disclosure

  • High-level portfolio view first

  • Drill-down into asset-specific details only when needed

System status visibility

  • Real-time updates across:

    • Prices

    • valuations

    • rental income

    • funding events

Flexibility for different users

  • High-level summaries for investors

  • Detailed breakdowns for analysts

Key UX Improvements

1. Portfolio Dashboard — the core experience

Before:

  • Data-heavy

  • Asset-separated

  • Hard to interpret

After:

  • Unified portfolio snapshot

  • Clear asset allocation and performance

  • Immediate understanding of portfolio health

This became the single source of truth

2. Real estate module — from tracking to performance clarity

The real estate product specifically:

  • Centralized all properties (residential, commercial, rental)

  • Surfaced:

    • rental income

    • property value

    • performance trends

My improvements focused on:

  • Turning raw metrics into performance narratives

  • Making comparisons easier across properties

  • Connecting real estate performance to overall portfolio

3. Cross-asset continuity

Ensured consistency across:

  • Startup investments

  • Real estate

  • Crypto

So users didn’t feel like they were switching products.

Stage 3. Results!

User impact

  • Clear understanding of total portfolio performance

  • Reduced reliance on spreadsheets and manual tracking

  • Faster decision-making across asset classes

Business impact

  • Stronger differentiation vs traditional tools

  • Better storytelling for investors and stakeholders

Reflections

The hardest UX problems aren’t about polishing UI— they’re about making complex systems understandable
